Keaukaha General Store announced it will award a high school senior with a $1,000 scholarship.

The application can be picked up at Keaukaha General Store or emailed to applicants by request at breeanik@aol.com. Applications must be turned in no later than June 31. Late applications will not be accepted.

The requirements are: must be a resident of the Big Island and a high school senior; enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program or be enrolling for the upcoming fall semester; and no minimum GPA is required.

This scholarship is named the “Holomua Scholarship, by Keaukaha General Store,” encouraging students to “holomua,” or improve, progress and move forward. Judges will be Keaukaha General Store Employees, and the names of students submitting applications will be anonymous to the employees.

Each essay submitted with applications will be read and rated on a 1-5 scale, judged on style, structure and content. Essays should be a detailed description of one positive change the applicant could make within their community, what would it be and why.

The winner will be announced no later than July 15 and the scholarship will be disbursed to the enrolled university.
